Grandmother Goes for the Harley Ride of Her Life on 90th Birthday
At our Harley-Davidson dealership near Merrimack, NH, we’re used to seeing Harley riders of all ages and from all walks of life. There’s no one type of Harley-lover, and learning more about the different backgrounds of many of our customers is one of the perks of the job.
Yet even we were a bit taken aback by a recent story out of Alabama, where a woman celebrated her 90th birthday — yes, her 90th — by taking a ride on her grandson’s Harley! According to Tuscaloosanews.com, Mary Walker got quite the thrill cruising on the back of a red 2009 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail. Apparently, Walker told her family she was either going to jump from an airplane or go for a motorcycle ride with her grandson, David, to celebrate the milestone occasion. We think she made the right call.
“I said by the time I get 90 years old I’m riding that with [David] so I said ok that’s it, I’m riding that Harley for my 90th birthday,” Mary said, according to ABC3340.com. “I’m not a bit nervous, I’m ready to ride, ready to ride Clyde.”
“I bought the motorcycle about a year ago, and I aggravated her about getting on it. She never would. She said when she turned 90 she would,” David said. “Today she turned 90, and we did it.”
According to David, the Walkers only traveled about one mile, but they did reach 45 miles per hour. That may sound pretty adventurous for a 90-year-old, but according to Mary, she could’ve handled more of a rush.
“Oh I love it! Just didn’t go far enough,” she said.
